October 3, 2009 Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium Edmonton
Jason Mraz opens his first headlining show in Edmonton with "0% Interest," a song he wrote 10 years earlier. During the middle of the
song, he stops and says he's doing this song because someone requested the song, which I tweet requested! He sees me in the front row
decked out in Mraz merchandise from years past and appreciates my loyalty and my Flip cam recording the night's concert. The last time
I've heard "0% Interest" was in Cleveland, Ohio, where Jason sang it with just him on piano. But to hear my favorite Mraz song in my
hometown is the best feeling ever. I could barely hold my Flip steady as I was shaking with tears of joy and euphoria. Before Mraz hit it
big with "I'm Yours" & "The Remedy" (which is actually derived from "Dream Life of Rand McNally"), he was all about the acoustic songs
with sprawling descriptively poetic songs where he sings and scats and the song has no chorus. That'll always be the beauty of Mraz music to me. But I love his new
stuff too and am extremely happy that he has found his niche in music. To me, he is way more talented than John Mayer and Jack Johnson, two
musicians he is constantly compared to. We should appreciate everyone's talent and be grateful for the gift of music. The Gratitude Cafe tour
is all about thinking of what you're grateful in life. How appropriate he plays Edmonton with Canadian Thanksgiving just around the corner.
The Edmonton concert is better than the Calgary show, not that I have a hometown bias, but Edmontonians stand up when the music artists arrive on stage.
We're more lively and I truly believe we appreciate all the great music that comes our way!
4th Jason Mraz concert...opening for Dave Matthews Band at the Gorge in George, Washington September 5, 2004
Setlist: 1,000 Things | The Remedy (I Won't Worry) | Who Needs Shelter | Absolutely Zero | Unfold | Geek in the Pink | Sleep All Day (Disco version)
3rd Jason Mraz concert...opening for Jonny Lang at The Joint Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas November 5, 2003
Jason Mraz opens for Jonny Lang at the Joint in the Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas. Security takes my camera away and tells me
that recordable digital cameras are prohibited. I have Trae run out and buy me a disposable camera in the hotel for $19 US.
Jason Mraz lives up to the hype. Though he's not the headliner, he simply could fill those shoes. In fact he does. Many of
the concert goers came solely for him. His set is both a strike of lightning and the ensuing fire. "Common Pleasure" is the
first song and it's commonly pleasurable for the fans and first time listeners. Mraz has a rapport with his audience which
only the truly talented showmans have. His musicality and flexibility are always on display, especially when he enlists the
audience's help with backing vocals. He teaches the crowd his ba bop language and everyone is aMRAZed. He throws his guitar
pick into the audience and some girl knocks it to the floor. My eyes follow the pick faster than anyone and I pick it off the
floor and have an amazing keepsake.
2nd time seeing Jason Mraz...at the Agora Theatre in Cleveland Ohio August 6, 2003
Sondre Lerche & Liz Phair opening
I'm walking by Euclid Avenue trying to find the Agora Theatre when Jason Mraz passes me on his electric scooter. I later
have a smoke with him. He doesn't remember me, but he's like, "Why Cleveland?" He asks me if we hung out in Edmonton, if we went on the
Mindbender rollercoaster. I said no but anytime he's back I'll be more than happy to ride any rollercoaster. The show is rocking. I have to buy Sondre
Lerche's CD, Liz Phair keeps it real, and Jason Mraz has truly come into his own as a performer. His "0% Interest" blows
me out of the water. Normally it's a folksy song which he entices the audience to sing "Our house...in the middle of the
street." But he strips it down to its bare essentials and it's just him at the piano and his voice. It is quite haunting
and one of the best live performances I've ever witnessed. Jason really puts on a show with his opera arias, his scat
singing and his impromptu rhymes.
1st time seeing Jason Mraz...he opens for Chantal Kreviazuk, my 7th time seeing her in concert April 1, 2003
I buy my Jason Mraz 69 shirt, and the seller tells me that Jason will be signing autographs during intermission. Mraz's
set is mind-boggling...I love everything about it, especially his "opera singing." When Jason heads offstage, I hold up
my "I LOVE UR COCK" sign, which he sees and makes him blush. In the lobby, I'm the first one to talk to him and he tells
me he saw my sign, but that I shouldn't let anybody else see it, for they might get the wrong idea because nobody [in
Canada] knows about the cock yet. I get my picture taken with him and I'm all giddy.
