The bitches meet up at Thornton Court, one of our old watering holes after Donna's. Our waitress Lisa works there and it's a lovely reunion of sorts. A liquid dinner always goes a long way. A couple of martinis later, we're all set for the concert. In fact we arrive just in time as Death Cab For Cutie's stage is all set up. Surrounded by a deliciously creative Tim Burton-esque set that includes two white houses and a backdrop of barren white trees, lead singer Ben Gibbard opens quietly on the piano with "Passenger Seat," from the band's 2003 breakthrough album "Transatlanticism." In a wash of purple lights (I think), the rest of the band, guitarist/pianist Chris Walla, bassist Nick Harmer and drummer Jason McGerr, joined Gibbard and promptly broke into a gorgeous performance of "The New Year."
